• COAL. MEMBER OF MESAVERI~E
Well DH-65 is in the East Roatcap (see Map No. 4-1) drainage and overlies the 1° East
Mains developed in 1994. This location was measured three times for water levels during
1996. During the 3RD quarter of 1996, Bowie Resources was unable to determine water
levels due to an obstruction in DH-65. Bowie Resources. Due to this obstruction, DH-65
will be removed from further monitoring. Well DH-60 is also in the East Roatcap
drainage and is at the end of Panel H. This well has a 1,040' long tube in it to measure
depth to water. This location was measured three times for water levels during 1996 and
the water level was apparently below the h~be during all monitoring events.
CONCLUSIONS
Hydrology monitoring was extended into the norther portion of the East Roatcap Creek
drainage during 1993 to fit newly acquired lease azeas and revised mine plans. Mining
during 1996 was confined to the western thick coal pod. Advance mining was done in 1
Right. Advance and retreat mining in 2 Right Panel and advance and retreat mining in 2
• '/~ Right Panel. Hydrology monitoring conducted during 1996 did not show mine related
impacts were occurring. Most of monitored locations exhibited chazacteristics and
patterns similar to previously observed data. Water quality remains good overall and no
physical impacts have been noted at any of the monitored locations that would suggest
adverse effects associated with mining operations a the Bowie No. 1 Mine.

Page -8-
