Appendix B <br />Sylvester Gulch Data Acquisition Needs <br />Road alignment survey <br />Considerations <br />• Preliminary alignment follows Sylvester Gulch in close proximity to the creek <br />channel. Schematic cross sections show proposed roadway as being no more than <br />about 20 feet above the creek bed. (Based on 10 and 20 foot contour intervals) <br />• Initial design goals include: <br />Limit construction disturbance <br />Minimize cut and fill depths <br />Balance cut and fill quantities and minimize haul distance <br />The survey should cover a sufficient width to allow for evaluation of alignment shifts <br />Execution <br />1. Tie elevations to permanent MSL benchmark. <br />2. Set new benchmarks in protected locations at approximate 500 foot intervals. <br />3. Survey Sylvester Gulch beginning at least 200 feet before start of new road and ending at <br />least 200 feet past the point of juncture with the existing road. <br />4. Survey cross sections at 50 foot intervals and in-fill where significant topographic breaks <br />occurring between sections. <br />5. Extend cross sections left and right of channel to a point at least 75 feet higher than the <br />channel bottom <br />6. Note location of all tributary streams and profile their channels to limits of sections. <br />7. Note locations of all soil test pits and/or borings. <br />8. Locate boundaries of delineated wetlands within the area of interest. <br />Soil Survey <br />Objectives <br />• Identify major soil types and profiles. <br />• Determine depth to bedrock and groundwater. <br />• Determine soil classification, plasticity, grain-size distribution, density, natural moisture <br />content, unit cohesion, internal friction, and CBR values. <br />
