and dead). The site is very stable and productive. It appeazs that the shrub density criteria
may be achievable through natural succession. However, the forb component is lacking. This
site may be suitable for limited interseeding with forbs and other desirable species following
intense grazing or strip spraying treatment.
East of Transfer 1 by haul road /conveyor access road crossine
This site is stable and productive. It carries a reasonably diverse plant community composed
of five dominant grasses (Crested wheatgrass (A. cris[a[um), Desert wheatgrass, Western
wheatgrass, Intermediate wheatgrass, and Russian wildrye), three native forbs in minor
amounts (Salsify (Tragopogon pra[ensis), Broom snakeweed (Xan[hocephalum saro[hrne),
and Longleaf phlox (Phlox longi(olia)) and several shrub species (Fourwing saltbush,
Shadscale (A[riplex confertifolia), and Big sagebrush) are becoming established through
natural succession. This site may meet bond release criteria except for shrub density. Access
will be necessary through this site at closure due to the location of a topsoil stockpile.
Establishment of adequate diversity appears slow but achievable through natural succession.
No treatment is suggested since it may jeopardize bond release time guidelines.
South-west comer of haul road / RB County Road 65 intersection
This site appeazs relatively weak but stable. Gumweed (Grinde/ia sgzzarrosa) has invaded
this site. Productivity appears low but has resulted in a relatively diverse plant community.
Besides the Gumweed, four wheatgrasses (Crested, Desert, Western, and Intermediate)
dominate the site. Ocher notable species which contribute to the plant community include
Broom snakeweed, Fourwing saltbush, Rubber rabbitbrush, and Big sagebrush. Several
seasons of spraying may be necessary to control the Gumweed followed by light ripping,
reseeding and possibly fertilization. This site will probably be redisturbed upon closure when
moving topsoil and for equipment mob/demob due to its strategic location.
