The records at the Colorado Department of Water Resources indicate that this well is owned by Union
iCarbide Corporation, has a total depth of 75 feet, with static water level at a depth of 25 feet. Water
production is rated at 15 gallons per minute. There was no information pertaining to the well water
quality. Umetco personnel from the Dove Creek, Colorado office reported that this well is located
approximately 1,200 feet west of the fuel spill area, was installed circa 1958, and used for dry room
water until circa 1980. The present condition of this well is not known. The well is shown on the
USGS topographical map (Piute Knoll quadrangle) of the vicinity (see Figure 2-2), at approximately
the same ground surface elevation as the fuel spill area.
' There is another well within one-half mile of the fuel spill area shown on the aforementioned USGS
topographical map (Figure 2-2). This well is located approximately 2,300 feet northeast of the fuel
spill area, at an approximate elevation of 7,080 feet above sea level. The Colorado Department of
' Water Resources' Durango, Colorado office stated that they have no records pertaining to this well.
There is a spring, shown on the aforementioned USGS topographical map, located approximately 1,900
feet southwest of the fuel spill area. This spring is located in the state of Utah, approximately 150 feet
' west of the state line, at an approximate elevation of 7,060 feet above sea level. The spring appears to
feed into a small water reservoir, located approximately 400 feet immediately south of and
topographically below the spring, and may be used for agricultural purposes.
There are two other small water reservoirs also shown on the aforementioned USGS topographical map
within one-half mile of the fuel spill area. One of these reservoirs is located approximately 2,200 feet
' northwest of the fuel spill area, at an approximate elevation of 7,080 feet above sea level. The other
reservoir is located approximately 1,600 feet southeast of the fuel spill area, at an approximate
' elevation of 7,060 feet above sea level.
1
6
