1
I
J
MARATHON GOLD CORPORATION
1985 ANNUAL REPORT
JOKER MINE AND PILOT PLANT
CMLRB FILE NO. 83-52
During the period of September 1 , 1984 to September 1 ,
1985, limited metallurgical pilot plant operations were conducted
at the Joker Mine and Pilot Plant . An amendment to the permit
was filed in January of 1985 and approved by the Board in March
of 1985 . The amendment allowed the laboratory use and testing
of cyanide solutions in gold assay and recovery research. In
addition the bond amount was raised from $25 ,000 to $45 ,000 .
In April , use of cyanide was suspended . Detoxified
pulps from cyanide tests conducted earlier this year are stored
in the laboratory in polypropylene drums . There has been no
discharge into the environment of solutions or solids that have
come in contact with cyanide . Plans for construction of the
laboratory waste disposal pit have been suspended until such
time, if ever, that testing with cyanide solutions resume.
The results of the water sampling program, as set
forth in the amendment , are attached hereto and labeled Table
1 and Table 2.
The Pilot Plant was run intermittently during the
reporting period. In July a short term production test of the
ores in the Joker pit was performed . An estimated 4000 tons
of overburden and ore was removed . The pit face was advanced
80 feet to the south. The mined out area of the pit near the
plant was back filled with overburden and tailings from the
test run.
Reclamation of those areas recontoured , topsoiled ,
and seeded during the spring of 1985 has been moderately successful .
Additional seeding is planned for this fall .
In September of 1985 , all operations at the Mine and
Pilot Plant were suspended . The laboratory was secured and
closed . Presently , only a security and maintenance person is
on site . It is anticipated that operations will resume in spring
of 1986.
December 5 , 1985
P.O. Box 1138 , Craig , CO 81626/303 824-8294
.
