Mine Feature Identification -350
Feature 350 is a shaft with a possible depth of 1000 feet. The proposed work
includes installing two 30 inch culverts surrounded by polyurethane foam. All
work will be coordinated with the operators of the Mollie Kathleen Tourist
Mine.
In regard to the conduct of the actual work, each project will be monitored by
a staff field engineer who will be on site to ensure that project work is
completed as specified. Projects will be inspected prior to payment and no
project will be considered complete until all extraneous disturbances created
by the contractor have been corrected. All contractors are required to have
both public liability and workman's compensation insurance during the term of
the project. We have had several instances of vandalism to mine closures.
The closures are designed to be vandal resistant and the program will monitor
the closure periodically. However, the landowner should also inspect the
closure to insure that it remains safeguarded.
Areas adjacent to the mine sites often contain mine related structures
(buildings, tipples, foundations) that may be historically significant. The
project work will avoid any disturbances to these structures in order to
preserve their integrity.
