 STAI OF COLORADO
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St.. Room 215
Denver. CO 80203
303 866 -3567
FAX 303 832 -8106
February 26, 1992
Brian Hester
Snare Construction
14690 West 58th Place
Arvada, CO 80004
RE: Poverty Gulch Project
Dear Mr. Hester:
qov Romer.
Gevornor
Ped R. Banta.
Dmsior Director
This letter is in regards to an inactive mine reclamation project being
proposed by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division, Inactive Mine
Reclamation Program. The purpose of the program is to safeguard hazardous
openings associated with abandoned or inactive mines. During the years of
1955 through 1991, accidents around inactive mines claimed 16 lives and
resulted in 21 injuries in Colorado. Since 1980 the Colorado Inactive Mine
Reclamation Program has completed over 275 inactive mine reclamation projects
throughout the state. An abandoned mine safety and awareness education
program has also been initiated.
We have identified a hazardous mine feature located on your property in Teller
County, Colorado. The program selects the mine sites based on their degree of
danger and their accessibility. The proposed reclamation is outlined in the
attached project narrative and the location of the opening is shown on the map.
The money for this work comes from fees paid by current coal mine operations.
These fees are placed in a trust fund by the federal Office of Surface Mining
and 50 percent can be returned to the state for reclamation purposes. The
project work that we are proposing will be paid for out of this fund.
I have enclosed a "Consent for Right of Entry for Reclamation Activities" form
which we will need to have signed before we undertake any project work. The
form grants permission to the State of Colorado and contractors to enter your
land to safeguard the mine opening. Please sign the form and return it to me
as soon as possible so that we can include this site in the proposed project.
Please call either me or Jim McArdle at (303) 866 -3567 if you have any
questions.
Sincerely,
Julie Lake Annear
Realty Specialist
Enclosures
6376G
