MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
J . ,
303 866 -3567
FAX 303 832 -8106
y
March 18, 1992
Ed Hunter
Pikes Peak Mining
Company
P.O. Box 191
Victor, CO 80860
Dear Ed:
t
Roy Romer.
Governor
Michael B. Long.
Division Director
Thank you very much for sending me your cost estimates of the safeguarding
work that Pikes Peak Mining Company /Cripple Creek and Victor Gold Mining
Company has completed on abandoned mine sites. We appreciate all of the work
you have done. The Abandoned Mine Program Advisory Council has directed that
the program further investigate ways to foster landowner cost sharing.
3) Providing labor to assemble cable netting into sections
4) Hauling panels from the storage area to each opening
5) Re- seeding disturbed areas
6) Taking down /re- installing fencing
7) Cash contributions towards the purchase of concrete panels
This could include:
1) Providing fill materials
2) Hauling fill materials to sites
As you know, funding for the safeguarding of abandoned mines is limited and
landowners sharing in the cost of reclamation work will help to increase the
funds available so that more mine openings can be safeguarded throughout the
state. I have enclosed a list of the 61 mine sites that we plan to safeguard
this summer which are located on lands owned or controlled by Pikes Peak
Mining Company. The total estimated cost of this work is $111,000. The
average cost per closure is $1,883. Cost sharing could include donations of
equipment materials labor or funds to defray the cost of the reclamation.
The Abandoned Mine Program will pursue opportunities to publicize this cost
sharing in the Cripple Creek /Victor area and the surrounding communities.
I will contact you in the near future to discuss any available opportunities
for cost sharing. Thank you very much for your consideration
Sincerely,
Julie Lake Annear
Realty Specialist
JLA /sj
Enclosure(s)
1944F
STA'A OF COLORADO
