Stover and Associates
2768 Compass Drive Suite 101
Grand Junction, Colorado 81506
PN: M98016MT
Attention: Mr. Jim Stover, P.E.
Subject: Density Test Results for the RECEIVED
Coal Gob Pile
Bowie Number 2 Mine near UEC ~` 1 1998
Paonia, Colorado.
Division of Minerals ~ Geobgy
Mr. Stover:
This letter is in response to your November 24, 1998 letter. As
you requested we have only addressed Item 2 of the 17 November 1998
Division of Minerals and Geology letter from Mr. Joseph J. Dudash.
We have..reviewed the density test results for the subject project
from March 5, 1998 through September 25,.1998. During the period
from March 5, 1998 through September 25, 1998 we performed density
tests on three (3} occasions in March, twice (2) in April, once (1)
in June, twice (2) in August and five (5) occasions in September.
A total of fifty-three (53) density tests were conducted during
the period from March through September 1998. All areas directly
under the density gauge were excavated and the material visual)-y
compared to the visual description of the Proctor test material to
verify the appropriate Proctor value to be used. The material was
observed for unusual amounts of large rock size material. If
unusual amounts of large rock size material were observed the
density test was performed again. The material excavated from the
field density test area was then returned to our laboratory for
laboratory verification of the moisture content of the material
tested.
The technician performing the density tests and the visual
description of the material at each test location was the same
technician that performed the laboratory Proctor test. This
techniques was to provide continuity in the visual descriptions
between the Proctor test material and the in-place density tested
material. If the density test material was observed to differ..from
the Proctor test results currently on file a sample was returned_to
our laboratory for another Proctor test.
P. O.
