6.0 SURFACE DRAINAGE CHANNELS
Surface drainage channels shall consist of 1) perimeter drainage
channels along the east and west toes of the refuse pile; 2) temporary collection
channels along the refuse pile benches; and 3) collection channels located
southeast and southwest of the refuse pile. The existing diversion channel
north of the refuse disposal plan will serve as a collection channel, whereas the
existing channel located along the base of the steep sloping face to the south
will serve as a temporary diversion ditch. As the refuse pile grows southwazd,
a second ditch shall be constructed south of the final refuse disposal plan to
serve as a permanent diversion channel. Hydrologic and hydraulic design
criteria for these channels are presented in Section 8.0 of this report. Initially,
the perimeter and temporary channels shall be constructed as shown in F4gure
2. All perimeter channels and the southeast and southwest collection channels
on the refuse pile will be riprapped with hard, durable, non-toxic forming rock
such as sandstone. Sandstone obtained from the access road construction will
be utilized if it meets gradation criteria as presented in Table 4.
14
