.. .~-.~
ANNUAL REPORT
Operator: United Companies of Mesa County
Operation: Pit #3
File Number: M-1977-022
Anniversary Date: Mazch 28, 2003
Pit #3 was active during the report year. Gravel extraction has been completed at this site. A small part of
the pit area, approximately 1 acre, is used for gravel product storage. Gravel is processed off site and
transported to the site for storage. This azea is part of Stage 1 that is shown on the Mining Plan Map. That
part of Stage 1 that is the North Fork of the Gunnison's channel, is flooded each yeaz as mountain snow
melts. A berm has been constructed and the ground elevation has been raised at the Stockpile Area that is
shown on the attached map. This prevents flooding of this azea most years.
At the northwest part of the permit, the North Fork of [he Gunnison River passes through the permit area. A
triangulaz shaped piece of land at the Northwest comer of the permit has not been disturbed by mining.
This azea was called Stage 2 on the approved Mining Plan Map. This azea will likely never be mined as part
of this permit.
The Stage 3 azea was mined in the past and has been graded and revege[ated,
A Technical Revision has been submitted to the Division to add a Weed Management Plan to the approved
plans for this permit and to change the species of tree to be planted as part of the site's reclamation from the
originally approved Russian Olive (listed as a noxious weed species) to Narrowleaf Cottonwood (a native
species).
