Because of concerns that planting in <br />July would 1) not receive the benefit of a normal growing season and 2) the usual <br />precipitation in the latter half of the calendar year is relatively small, CC&V decided to <br />plant transplants but irrigate them through the summer of 1997 and to seed without the <br />mulch. <br />The irrigation system was installed by the CC8~V process department. The system <br />consisted of drip tubing that was gravity fed from two holding tanks at the top of the hill. <br />The tanks were turned on at night when needed and filled by the mine's water trucks <br />when emptied. <br />
