ATTACHMENT FOR THE 1~ ANNUAL REPORT
FOR THE PIKEVIEW QUARRY - M-77-211
CASTLE CONCRETE COMPANY
MAP: The map included in this years annual report is intended to show
only the area that was placed under reclamation this year. Otherwise,
the operation has changed very little from last year.
1991 RECLAMATION: The area reclaimed included primarily south and east
facing slopes in the vicinity o£ the shop. The moat easterly strip
involved s regrading and retopsoiling of an area that had been
previously reclaimed. This area, due to the infiltration of water which
appears to have been controlled, underwent a severe slump several years
ago. Now that the water problem has apparently been solved the slope
was reclaimed again.
The western portion of the 1991 reclamation involved the grading
and topsoiling of an area that had not been previously under
reclamation.
The three acres of seeded and three acres of topsoil replaced
indicated on the form include all of the lands described above.
The five acres of backfilling is at the base of the quarry backwall
in Tract AA. This is being done in anticipation of the enhanced
reclamation plan to be implemented in accordance with the
recommendations of the scar commission and the City/County Reclamation
Advisory Committee in Colorado Springs. That plan is currently being
considered by various parties. This backfilling, if approved as part o£
the enhanced reclamation plan, will continue in small pieces for the
remainder of the life of the mine. Reclamation of the back£illed areas
will be implemented as sections are completed.
The 65 to 70 acres of affected land includes not only the area of
actual extraction but all roadways, processing areas, stockpiles, and
the extensive shop and maintenance area.
