(2) The additional monitoring portion of this report consists of
three separate sections; a discussion of the results of an
annual rill and gully inspection, an evaluation of
revegetation success, and a report on the hydrologic status of
the Bourg Mine which underwent final reclamation during the
Fall of 1988.
Rill and Gully Inspection
Rill and gully inspections were conducted at the Bourg
property on May 22, 1991 and August 16, 1991. On each
occasion it was determined that the sediment control
system was working as designed. All terraces appeared to
be in good condition. No new material or significant
rilling was evidenced.
The rill along the east side of the 1988 reclamation near
the edge of the 1984 reclamation had not increased in
size. Walden Coal continued to stabilize the rill with
the use of hay bales.
The permanent gully along the west perimeter road
remained stable throughout the runoff season. There is
evidence of some vegetation establishment. The culvert
which runs under the perimeter road near the former shop
pad was removed. The area disturbed by the culvert
removal was graded and seeded.
The settlement crack located at the bottom of the slope
at the north end of the property is still evident and
topsoil was used to fill the crack. The crack will
continue to be monitored.
Vegetation Survey
The vegetation survey was conducted by Warren Keammerer,
Ph.d. on July 29, 1991. The results of that survey are
included in this report as Appendix A.
Hydrologic Survey '"1~
Well depths were measured and water samples were
collected on July 9 and September 9, 1991. The results
of those samples are attached (Appendix B). There is no
indication that the reclamation activities at the Bourg
Mine have had any adverse impact on the hydrology of the
area.
2
