Cotter Corporation • •
February 11, 1980
page three
•
Finally, you questioned the Department's hesitancy to accept the capability
of your ore-sorting system to detect small amounts of ore interrixed with
waste rock. Until detailed information concerning the pre-sorting system are
presented to this Department, we cannot assume your present pre-•sorting system
is adequate to detect small amounts of ore intermixed with wastes rock. There-
fore, we feel the following questions are warranted:
8) the limitations of the present pre-sorting system to detect small amounts
of ore intermixed with large amounts of waste rock
9) alternate methods of pre-sorting
Once again, as stated in our letter of December 18, 1979, the issues raised
in this letter must receive an in-depth analysis as part of your license
application. Addressing these issues should in no way delay the. submittal of
your revised Environmental Report which the Department requests be submitted
no later than February 29, 1980. If the Environmental Report has not been
submitted by this date, the Department will consider instituting, ttie necessary
procedures, pursuant to CRS 1973, 25-11-107, needed to cease the operation of
the Cotter Schwartzwalder ore sorter.
• The thorough evaluation of a possible health hazard is the Department`s major
concern. Your cooperation with us in this matter is appreciated.
Sincerely, ~
//J Z
~~
A bert J.
