i ~
• 5.2.4 Ralston Creek Sampling
Monthly grab samples will be taken at two sites, upstream and downstream
of the waste pile , as long as there is water flowing in the o~eek, waters will
be analyzed for Ra-226 and U. (See Figure 1.1-2.)
5.2.5 Ambient Air Sampling
As stated in Section 2, two high volume air samplers have been installed.
Two passive radon monitors will be colocated with the high volumes a:> soon as they
are received. One additional radon monitor will be installed in the area of
56th and Pine Ridge Road. (See Figures 1.1-1 and 1.1-2.)
5.2.6 Radium and/or Uranium Uptake by Plants
This one-time study is set up at the site adjacent to the wa~;te pile,
and should give an indication of uptake of Ra-226 and/or Uranium as z~ result of
• runoff from the waste pile. It consists of 3 or 4 parallel lines from the waste
pile to the creek following a direct line with the runoff. Samples Neill be
taken along each line at 2 to 3 foot intervals. Samples will be analyzed for
Ra-226 and Uranium.
5.2.7 Infiltration/Runoff Study
The final study proposed will take place when there is no flow in Ralston
Creek. After a tunderstorm, water samples will be taken at the four vegetation
sampling sites described above, as long as there is flow in the creek. These
samples will be analyzed for Ra-226 and U. The data from this test should supple-
ment the data given in Table 2.2-1. Meterological conditions will bra recorded
including rainfall and temperature as well as antecedent soil moisture conditions.
The data obtained from this waste dump runoff study will be combined with
the data presented in Table 2.2-1 for the purposes of discussing rainfall infil-
• tration into the waste dump following reclamation. The mitigating ei`fects of the
waste dump soil cover, dilution of waste dump runoff by stream flow, and other
factors will also be discussed.
F-2
