subsidence in order to protect the pipeline. The subsidence monitoring stations
along the pipeline are depicted on Map No. 2-SA. The stations were surveyed twice
in 1996; May 2, and June 17`h~. Results of the surveys are appended to this report.
The 1996 surveys were performed by UT'E Engineering and Surveying Company.
CJTE should provide consistent survey values in the future which will show the area
is stable. Surveys will contimie approximately semi-anmially until stability is
documented.
Visual Monitoring 1996
Visual subsidence monitoring is accomplished by periodic "walkovers" of recently
mined areas within the present permit area. Walkovers are generally done in
conjunction with survey monitoring due to the seasonal accessibility of the area.
Visual monitoring is concentrated over areas of retreat mining with particulaz
emphasis on areas mined under low overburden.
A visual subsidence monitoring inspection was conducted the second week of July
1996. Panel 2 Right was inspected. Panel 1 Right was advanced during the year
• but no retreat mining was performed so it was not inspected.
No visual indications of subsidence were noted during the subsidence inspection.
No visrial indications of subsidence were noted during surveying or hydrology
monitoring efforts for the 1996 calendar year.
Projected Subsidence Impacts 1997
Subsidence impacts during 1997 are projected to be minimal based upon subsidence
patterns established to date. Mining during 1997 is projected to occur in the are
between the central and west pods. The areas scheduled to be mined during 1997
are not significantly different from areas previously mined in terms of topography,
geology, or mining technique and should not, therefore, exhibit significantly
different subsidence effects.
Projected Subsidence Monitoring 1997
Per the conditions of technical revision 16, the Operator is required to inform the
Division of selected sites proposed for surveying for the upcoming yeaz in the
n
Page -9-
