Lorencito Canyon Mine Annua( Hvdralogic Monitoring ReOOrt - 2001 <br />Pond Sites <br />No pond sites were monitored during 2001. Historic monitoring indicated the sites varied with <br />pH ranging from 7.5 to 8.1 and conductances ranging from 190 µmhos to 275 µmhos. Water <br />levels varied from site to site, however, no flow was observed at any of the sites. <br />Sediment control ponds have been constructed to treat disturbed area runoff. No discharges from <br />these ponds have been recorded to date. <br />Conclusions <br />Coal mining operations began at Lorencito during the fourth quarter of 2001. Monitoring to date <br />does not indicate any impacts to local or regional water resources from mining, however, changes <br />in water quality over the past two years may be caused by increased coalbed methane development <br />in lower Lorencito Canyon and side canyon tributaries. <br />ANR-(p.415\April 26, 2W2 <br />
