The Big Mack Mine is known to have had an influence on the original upgradient alluvial
monitoring well TR-1 during the initial baseline study. This influence is discussed in
Section 2.x.2.5 (page 2.5-67) and resulted in the installation of TR-1.5 as a replacement
upgradient monitoring well. It should be noted that TR-l .~ is located downstream of
where TR-I was located.
TR-l .~ has not been affected by the abandoned mine or underfloor from Little Trout
Creek due to the alignment of Trout Creek immediately below the Little Trout -Trout
Creek confluence and the spatial relationship between TR-1.5, the confluence and
discharge from the Big Mack Mine. Monitoring results from over the past several years
indicates that the mineralized waters in the alluvium along Trout Creek generally Clow as
a dispersing plume parallel to the creek with only a slow migration of alluvial waters
towards the "free water" of the creek. Alluvial water (underfloor) of Little Trout Creek
would be expected to follow a similar flow pattern. Due to [he placement of TR-1 S
along the outer portion of the alluvium away front the creek, TR-l.~ was outside the
plume (on the bedrock side) of mineralized flow from Big Mack and underfloor from
Little Trout Creek.
When the optical fiber cable was laid during the summer of 199, its alignment was
downstream of County Road 27 along the downstream edge of the alluvium conunon to
Little Trout Creek and Trout Creek. It is believed that the activities associated with
laying the cable has altered the plume from either the Little Trout Creek undertlow and/or
the Big Mac Mine discharge as they migrate toward Trout Creek to the extent that this
flow now exerts an influence on the alluvia] water collected at TR-1.~.
a.
