I have the
following comments:
Analysis of trends in water quality data is hampered by the
changes in well locations used over the years, and constituents
not analyzed consistently.
Surface water quality for Good Sprinq Creek degraded somewhat
in 1984, but has remained essentially the same since then. The
source of degradation is not apparent. For Taylor Creek, the
surface water quality has remained stable.
Groundwater quality has shown no trends for any constituents.
Lack of longer term data for current Good Spring Creek wells
(replacing other groundwater monitoring wells in 1989) makes
identification of data trends not meaningful at this time.
Data between wells and sampling dates are comparable and
consistent for the most part.
Samples taken August 1, 1989, from wells A-3 and Gossard No. 1,
show elevated metals. The sample taken November 19, 1990, from
Gossard No. 1 shows extreme elevations of iron. While the 1989
Annual Report attributes the elevated level in the A-3 well
sample to the great length of time the well was "unevacuated" -
from May 31, 1985, to August 1, 1989, - this is not the case
for Gossard No. 1 which was sampled regularly from October 19,
1983 to the present. A number of possible reasons exist which
may have contributed to these anomolous data. I suggest the
company be cautioned to exercise care in sampling technique to
