PROJECTED HYDROLOGY IMPACTS 1988
Much data has been generated over the last Eive (plus) years. Utilizing this
data and based on future mine plans, CWI projects potential impacts of mining to
the hydrologic regime. CWI anticipates the submittal of a technical revision
during the summer of 1988, to reduce the number of resources which are presently
being monitored.
The following discussions _are divided into three sections. These are: Surface
Water - Projected Impacts, Groundwater - Projected Impacts, and Orchard Valley
Mine Site - Projected Impacts. Surface water discussions include streams and
ponds. Groundwater discussions include colluvial/alluvial and bedrock
resources.
SURFACE WATER - PROJECTED IMPACTS
Streams:
Impacts to streamflow during 1988 are projected to be minimal. As only damp
conditions and no inflows were experienced as both East Roatcap Creek and
Steven's Gulch were undermined during 1987, no inflows or impacts to these
streams are projected during 1988. No other streams would be undermined during
the year. No development in the sealed Orchard Valley Mine would occur and no
impacts to resources over the mine are projected.
Ponds:
No ponds are projected to be undermined during 1988. Mining may reach the area
east of pond Nos. 14-2 and 88. Overburden in this area is near 1,000 feet and
no impacts to these ponds are projected. No change to the ponds which overlie
the Orchard Valley Mine are projected.
GROUNDWATER - PROJECTED IMPACTS
Near Surface colluvial-Alluvial Groundwater:
With the projected development of Panel G northward from the II West Submains,
no springs would be undermined. The colluvial-alluvial area of SM-7 and the
above mentioned ponds may be just west of this development. Overburden is near
1,000 feet and no impacts to this area are projected. Monitoring of shallow
monitoring wells and springs in the area would continue and would verify this
projection. As no activity would occur in the Orchard Valley Mine, no impacts
to resources in the area of this past development are anticipated.
Bedrock Groundwater:
No impacts to bedrock groundwater are evident from past monitoring and
mining data and no impacts are projected. Monitoring of drill holes GR77-7 and
DH-60, which are in the areas of the existing and projected OVWM development,
would continue. Again, no impacts are projected in the area of the dormant
• Orchard Valley Mine.
