Additional Sheets
2000 Annual Report
Pueblo West Pit
M-1977-573
Transit Mix of Pueblo
Anniversary Date: March 22
Overview of Permit Year: During the 1999/2000 operating year all mining activity occurred on the north
side of the river. The amount of land disturbed in the last year is the same as the previous year. In the
previous year all land had been stripped of vegetation, but overburden remained in many areas. Now all
overburden has been removed and stockpiled.
The Salty Soil Remedial Program, discussed elsewhere, continued on the east end of the property.
The operation remained much as it had in previous years. In fact, on the west end of the operation,
south of the river, the only change was a reduction in exposed water as a result of continued siltation from
the washing processes.
The bond continued at $343,323.00.
Affected Lands: This operation, containing 296.22 acres, can be divided into many different categories of
affected land. These categories range from extraction to revegetation. For purposes of this report, affected
land means any land disturbed but not released from bond. That is, any land previously permitted, but
released from bond, is not included in the affected land total. The following table summarizes some of the
acreages in broad categories.
Acreage Accounting
(all three annual report maps combined)
Total Affected Land (Bonded) 234.85 acres
Total Water Surface (Bonded) 28.4 acres
Total Soil Replaced (Bonded) 35.75 acres
Total Revegetation in progress 35.75 acres
Revegetation: Revegetation patterns on the Divelbliss portion of the revegetation area on the east end of
the operation continue to exhibit many of the same patterns as before.
For the Litvak area please refer to the Salty Soil Remedial Program described below.
Salty Soil Remedial Program: In the last annual report the program initiated to develop vegetation on
the salt affected soils at the Litvak area was described. The species planted last year are tolerant of salty
soils. But, like most plants, they still require adequate moisture conditions in the seedling stage to become
established. Once established salt-tolerant species tend to be fairly immune to drought, mainly as a
consequence of their special adaptations that allow them to grow in salty soils.
Enclosed in this report is a bar chart that shows the daily precipitation received at the Pueblo
weather station located east of the city at the airport. This chart includes the period from March 1 through
Transit Mix of Pueblo 2000 Annual Report M-1977-573 Pueblo West Pit Page 1 of 3
