Annual Report
Without restating your items A, B and C, the requests all
relate to the numbers of acres affected, to be affected, reclaim-
ed, etc., and all can be answered with the attached Table of
Affected Lands. As the Table illustrates, we have thus far
affected a total of 1,511 acres, of which 446 acres have '=eceived
revegetation effort.
The first set of columns, entitled "Projected thru 1934" were
submitted as a part of the 1982 Annual Report, dated February 21,
1983. Comparing- the "Projected thru 1984" values with "Actual
thru 1984" values, it becomes evident that our 1982 projections
were somewhat liberal. All areas are numbered and correlated with
the map. The processes of accounting for the acreages and
calculating the estimated costs are becoming a little more
sophisticated with each iteration. We will further refine the
accounting systems in the future. We are confident that the
estimated costs are sufficient for the task.
Question II.D.: The bottom of Page 2, discusses def`.initive
measurements of the soil-tailing test plot which
would be made in the future. Due to the impact
these findings have in relation to the approved
Reclamation Plan, the Division believers it is
important to acquire this definitive measurement
information. When will this definitive
measurement occur?
Answer: Our statement on Page 2 with regard to the test
plots was our report to you that the test plots
are progressing and that nothing unexpec~=ed has
happened. These are long term tests. The plots
have experienced only two growing seasons. We
are observing the progress of the plots and may
photograph the various cells through the years.
Observations through time will show differing
trends, if any, between the treatments. This
type of "definitive observation and measurement"
is practical and will tell us what we need to
know, i.e., relative success or failure of the
various treatments.
