•
Supplementary Information - 1984 Annual Report
Henderson Mine
March 26, 1985
Page 2
Answer: In securing the shaft opening, it is planned to dis-
mantle the evase and salvage it or dispose of the
steel down the raise. A steel grid will be placed
over the opening and filled with concrete. Use of a
helicopter may be necessary. The plug will be
covered with soil or sub-soil and revegetated. On
recalculating the costs for this response, we feel
the $50,000.00 may be high and we may lower the
estimate in future calculations.
Question 3: Page 3, Area 3 reference "Dismantle, close f~ortal"
with 'a reclamation cost of $10,000.00. Please
provide more information on how this value was
determined.
Answer: At present, there is no projected use for the haulage
.tunnel following closure of the mine. If access to
the tunnel is not necessary, the simplest and most
effective way of closing the portal would be to doze
it shut. Dozing the portal would not cost
$10,000.00. However, it is remotely possible that a
reason for maintaining access to the tunnel will
develop. If such were the case, the portal would be
closed with a gate (door). The $10,000.00 in ques-
tion is more than adequate to cover the cost of a
gate and the small amount of grading and site prepar-
ation required of the site in general.
Question 4: Page 4, Area 9 references "Flood Control" with a
reclamation cost of $200,000.00. Please give more
detailed information as to how this value was
obtained.
Answer: The Reclamation Plan describes the existing f:.ood
accommodation system for the tailing deposition area.
By the end of 1986, the lower flood bypass canal will
continue to be operable as well as the surge ca-
pacities and bypass facilities of both the East
Branch and Ute Creek Reservoirs. As with all such
facilities, the design described herein is adequate
to accomplish the task. However, the design might be
improved upon and we reserve the right to modify the
design accordingly.
If mine closure occurs and final
measures are necessary by the end
lay approximately 5,000 feet of
inforced concrete pipe from the to
tailing deposition area water pool
canal below the tailing dam.
flood protection
of 1986, we would
36" diameter re-
w elevation of the
to the seep water
