Canany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
Grand Junction CO 81506
Dear Mr. Stover:
The Division has completed review of the 2003 Annual Hydrology Report for the Blue Ribbon
Mine. We found that, based on monitoring for the year, that the predictions contained within
the probable hydrologic consequences (PHC) section of the permit aze correct or the hydrologic
impact is less than predicted.
Specifically, there was no evidence from the data that there was increased erosion from the
disturbed azea, compared to the surrounded undisturbed area.
There was no impact from oil and grease since machinery hasn't been present on the site for
many years.
The prediction that there would be increased salt load in Hubbazd Creek caused by water transit
through the backfilled bench area was not demonstrated by the data from the Creek itself.
Analyses of conductivity from Hubbazd Creek show ambiguous results, there is no evidence of
an increase in salinity from the mine itself.
The impacts of the very dry yeaz are obvious in the data.
Thank you for the timely submission of the report. If you have any questions, please feel free to
call me.
Sincerely,
2s~~
Jim Burnell
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Sandy Brown
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
