• Soil Salvage and Storage
The disturbance area from which soil was salvaged and the soil stockpile sites as of
December 31, 1997 are shown on drawing Y97TSREM. During 1997, all soil was imported [o
stockpiles E, E and G.
The actual volume of soil salvaged and stockpiled from 1995 through December 31, 1997 was
determined by field survey of existing soil storage stockpiles. The base and existing
elevations for each s[ock.pile were complei ed by the Seneca II-W engineering staff. The
stockpile volumes as of December 31, 1997 are listed in Table 97.1. As of December 31,
1997, 262.7 acre-fee[ of soil were stockpiled in the mtnrng area.
Soil Balance and Replacement

The soil balance is calculated for Yoast Mine by comps ct ng the discurbance area that
c ey urres soil replacement as of December 31, 1997 wish the soil reserve in stockpiles. The
disturbance area for Yoast Mine, shown on drawing Y97TSREM, totaled 266.9 acres on December
31, 1997. No soil was salvaged or needs to be replaced beneath the soil stockpile sr[es.
Also, Haul Road A and Haul Road B ace permanent postmine to cilitres 19.9 acresl, soil will
only be [eplaced on a po rt ron of [hose roads effecctvely narrowing them to 20 feeC wide.
Topsorl has been replaced on 63 .3 aces of disturbed area through December 31, 1997.
Therefore, the [oral disturbance area requiting topsoil as of December 31, 1997 was 193.7
acres at the mine site.
Soil Replacement Thickness
The soil replacement thickness for the first five-year permit term was projected to be 1.0
feet for the mine area. The sorl balance as of December 31, 1997 was calculated as follows:
Mine A[ea
Total disturbance area = 266.9 acres
Permanent Facilities 6 Topsoil replaced = 1 73.21acres
Disturbance area rey ui ri ng soil = 193.7 acres
Soil in stockpiles (Table 97.11 = 262.7 acre-feet
Clean ceplacemenc depth = 1.4 feet
• By dividiny Che soil available by the area requiring scil replaced, we aru ve at the 1997
soil balance thickness of 1.4 fee[ for [he mine area.
3
