ANNUAL REPORT
NARRATIVE
PERMITTEE NAME: Lawrence Construction Company
PERMIT NO.: M-74-041
OPERATION NAME: Lawrence Pit
COUNTY: Douglas
COMMENTS: Active construction aggregate handling operations were carried on in the
permitted area throughout the year 2009. However, these activities almost exclusively involved
accumulation of reclaimed concrete and the storage of construction aggregate from other
sources.
During the report year, 2000, less than 500 cubic yards of native material was extracted from the
embankment in the pit. Approximately five acres of previously reclaimed land was redisturbed
to provide aggregate storage area and water containment ponds. No disturbed land was available
for reclamation. No additional land is expected to be disturbed during 2001 and no disturbed
land is expected to be available for reclamation. All of the reclaimed asphalt and the majority of
the reclaimed concrete which was crushed in 1998 was removed from the pit to various
construction projects. During 2000, additional reclaimed concrete and reclaimed asphalt was
accumulated for future crushing and use as construction aggregate in the construction projects.
A portion of the pit was leased to Aggregate Industries, Inc., a supplier of construction
aggregate to the permittee and others. Aggregate Industries hauls crushed construction
aggregates from its quarries to the Lawrence Pit for temporary for storage and washing through a
portable wash plant with a permitted closed circuit wash system. The stored aggregate is
subsequently sent to customers for the products.
The extent of the construction aggregate operations are shown on the enclosed copy of an aerial
photograph of the pit.
