Box 980
Carbondale, Colorado 81623
Re: North Thompson Creek Mine Permit C-025-81; Refuse Pile Certification
Dear Mr. Jones:
On October 18, 1984, you requested permission to suspend refuse pile '
certification being done quarterly since the mine is on inactive status.
Instead, the pile will only be certified annually until such time as waste is
hauled to the pile.
The Division approved your request subject to review by our geotechnical
engineer who was on vacation at the time of the request. Since then Mr.
Pendleton of our staff has concurred that it would be appropriate that
certification be extended to a yearly basis so long as the pile was inactive.
However, he advised that at the time of temporary abandonment the pile should
be worked on to bring it up to design standards. That is, complete any
outstanding drainage work (for example, incomplete terraces), retopsoil any
grading to prevent ponding and minimize infiltration into the pile.
If you have any questions fee] free to contact me.
Since )y, ~ ~
Robert G.
