Kr. David Berry
October 4, 1988
Page 15
4. Plots of the conductivity reported for the upstream and downstream
sites on Foidel Creek were provided in the AHR. Therefore, it was
thought that a plot showing conductivity for Station 800 would not add
meaningful information to the AHR. Unless the Division advises this
plot is necessary it will not be included in the 1988 AHR.
5. The locations of these sites have been discussed previously with the
Division, and the Division accepted the explanation addressing the need
for two sites. In summary, the gaging station is located downstream of
an ANFO storage facility (not operated by CYCC), and the water quality
sample were obtained from the Station (8) upstream of the site.
However, beginning with the 1987 AHR the sampling sites are referred to
as Station 8.
6. The conductivity values at Station 8 always have been higher than
Station 14 due to the affects of mine discharge. An interesting point
that should be noted is that the conductivity levels at both the
upstream and downstream station increased, indicating a natural
phenomenon.
7. For the period of record only one silver concentration 0.3 ug/1)
exceeded the detection limit of 0.1 ug/1. Given this history and the
analytical problems associated with low level silver analysis, it is
CYCC's opinion that silver concentrations can not be classified as
"elevated". u
8. Given the size of the current AHR, and the fact there are no Cyprus
operations between Station 8 and 900, it was thought that a plot of
conductivity for Station 900 would not add meaningful information to
the AHR. Unless the Division insists a plot is necessary, the 1988 AHR
will follow the same format as the prior one.
Middle Creek Station
1. The USGS did not include dissolved solids data in the information
supplied to CYCC in January, 1988. Subsequently, the data has been
received and entered into the data base. An updated report is attached.
2. The detection limit for the USGS laboratory is ug/1.
3. The concentration was entered correctly into the data base.
Fish Creek Station
1. The data for station 1001 has been provided in prior reports. Station
16 is currently the upstream station on Fish Creek and that data has
been provided in the current report.
