Mr. David Berry
October 4, 1988
Page 13
r~
u
Another point to consider is that the Basic Standards have been modified and
provide for using water hardness to determine the silver standard. This
will result in an accurate assessment of potential chronic impacts to
salmonoid species.
CMLRD CONCERN:
Surface Water
The surface Water monitoring network includes sites operated by both
Colorado Yampa Coal Company and the U.S. Geological Survey. In general,
relatively elevated values for electrical conductivity, total dissolved
solids, iron, manganese, and/or sulphate are observed at sites along Foidel,
Middle, Fish and Trout creeks. Specific observations and requests are
listed below.
Creek Stations -
he content of Figure 36 (stations 8 and 14) is extremely. helpful;
owever, the graph is not easily interpreted because too much
information is displayed. Please consider distributing the information
over two or three graphs in the next AHR to allow easier interpretation.
i
2 (~ tation 800 exhibits elevated silver levels. Zinc levels have also
been relatively high.
3~ Please check the April 1981 (Station 800) molybdenum value, it may be
Please include a- graph representing electrical conductivity for Station
800, with the nett AHR. Sha,(~ ~~+,,,,A~ g;,eo~ (uac- ~ ~(9w ~t /~f
S.~JWhy are two stations (Station 8 and Station 2005) used, one for
monitoring water quality and one for discharge. All data should be
collected at the same site. Please verify that quality and discharge
data will be collected at the same location.
6~ Electrical conductivity seems to be increasing over time at Station 8.
Values downstream (Station 8) are higher than those recorded at the
upstream station (Station 14) as shown in Figure 34. This increase may
~D or may not be related only to low flow in Foidel Creek during 1987.
Further evaluation will be conducted to allow a more complete analysis
of this possible trend.
7.1~!/ Elevated silver values have been observed at Station 8/2005.

in error
Please provide a graph of electrical conductivity for Station 900, with
the ner.t AHR.
