Transact Locations. All of the cover, production and shrub density transacts sampled in this
evaluation are shown on the enclosed map. The locations 15 cover, 30 production and 30 shrub
density transacts sampled are shown on Map 1, Raton Creek Mine - 2005 Vegetation Transact
Location Map.
RATON CREEK MINE RECLAMATION
Plant Cover. The results obtained from the sampling of the 15 plant cover transacts on this site
are presented in Table 3, Raton Creek Mine Reclamation - 2005 Plant Cover. Total plant cover
on this site averaged 35.27 percent (Table 3, Raton Creek Mine Reclamation - 2005 Plant
Cover). In 2004 total plant cover on this site was found to average 36.87 percent.
The revegetation success standard for this site is 25 % "allowable cover." Examination of Table
3, Raton Creek Mine Reclamation - 2005 Plant Cover, reveals that the total "allowable cover"
on this site in 2005 averaged 28.99 percent. In 2004, total "allowable cover" averaged 30.50
percent. Since the ach~al "allowable cover" value values for 2005 (28.99 %) and 2004 (30.50 %}
for this reclaimed site both exceed the revegetation success standard for this site (25 %), it can
be concluded that the "allowable cover" in this reclamation block satisfies the revegetation
success standard for both years of monitoring.
Perennial grasses dominated the seeded vegetation on this site in 2005, contributing a total of
52.17 percent of the total relative plant cover on this site. In 2004, perennial grasses contributed
52.62 percent of the total relative plant cover. Western VJheatgrass, Blue Grams, Sideoats
Grams and Bluebunch Wheatgrass were the most commonly encountered grasses in the 2005
sampling, contributing 34.39, 6.24, 3.77 and 1.89 percent, respectively of the total relative cover
on this reclauned site.
Perennial forts contributed 21.35 percent of the total relative cover on this site in 2005 and in
2004 contributed 21.08 percent of the total relative cover. Cicer Milkvetch was the most
commonly encountered perennial fort on this site in 2005, contributing 20.22 percent of the total
relative cover.
The locations of the 15 cover transacts sampled on this site are shown on Map 1, Raton Creek
Mine - 2005 Vegetation Transact Location Map. Copies of the individual field data sheets for
the plant cover sampling of this site are found in Exhibit A -Copies of Raton Creek Mine - 2005
-Plant Cover Field Data Sheets. The sample adequacy calculations in Table 2, Raton Creek
Mine Sample Adequacy Calculations, document that the number of samples required to describe
this site at the 90 percent confidence intervat was detemuned to equal 13.2 transacts based on
"allowable cover."
Production. The results of the 30 production transacts sampled at the Raton Creek Mine are
summarized in Table 4, Raton Creek Mine - 2005 -Production. The average forage production
on tins site in 2005 averaged 29.33 g/1/4m~ or 1,045.3 pounds of air dry forage per acre. This
compared with an average production value in 2004 of 33.78 g/1/4m2 or 1,203.9 pounds of air
dry forage per acre.
