2000 AHR Review
Data collected under the 2000 calendar year included all stations approved under the
original plan but on a reduced schedule. Also reported in the 2000 report were field
data and water quality data collected in March 2001. This data should be considered
the most representative of pre-mining conditions. Some increase in total dissolved
solids in Lorencito Canyon is noted and minor changes in alluvial water levels and
bedrock water levels are noted.
2001 AHR Review
The operator conducted sampling in March 2001 for surface and alluvial stations. Upon
commencement of mining activities in October, the operator began monitoring as
approved under PR-01 for surface mining in Jeff Canyon. Water quality is effectively
unchanged due to mining activities, likely due to the limited mining activities conducted
during the year. An increase in TDS of 10 mg/I in the Purgatoire River is between the
upstream and downstream stations, is noted, and likely due to higher total dissolved
solids in discharge from Lorencito Canyon. Due to drought conditions, no discharge
from mine sediment ponds occurred in 2001.
The Division has no further questions at this time. Thank you for conducting monitoring
in accordance with your approved plan.
Sincer ly,
1
Ke t Gorham
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Dan Hernandez, DMG
