Further, all available products will be
recycled as a part of the recycling facility.
Notwithstandingany of the above data, it is doubtful that any leachate will be produced.
(]0) The chemical compatibility of the barrier layer to estimated leachate chemical
characteristics
The barrier layer will utilize 3 feet of on site clay. Clay is used as the primary liner type
for numerous municipal landfills in Colorado and the chemical chazacteristics of the
leachate have not been shown to have any degrading effects on the clay liners.
(11) The distance groundwater beneath the site would flow during the facility's
operating life and post-closure care period. Distance to domestic wells or
• springs shown to tap the uppermost aquifer down-gradient of the site shall be
presented.
The uppermost saturated zone (B Sand) exists at a depth of between 60 and 100 feet
below the proposed base of waste placement and has a hydraulic conductivity of
approximately 0.1 ft/day {4x10.5 centimeters per second). Based on the estimates of
hydraulic gradient (0.03) and effective porosity (0, 18) presented in Section 3.2.2(D) of
this report, the estimated flow rate in the B Sand is about 6 feet per yeaz. This would be
a conservative estimate for leachate migration because it does not account for any
chemical retazdation that might occur in the natural subsurface materials. Assuming an
operating life of 26 yeazs and apost-closure caze period of 30 years for the facility, the
groundwater travel distance would be 156 and 180 feet, respectively (336 feet total in
56 years). There are no known springs near or downgradien[ from the site and the
neazest domestic groundwater well completed in the Dawson formation is more than

Voo/1191RI915cdcliaPnmi11000 doc Sedalia Recycling Center and Depository
