INTERNAL MEMO
TO: Jim Stark 1 Apri12004
FROM: Jim Bur
SUBJ: Deserado ( -1981-018) 2003WY AHR Review
The review of the Deserado 2003 AHR has been completed. The report is satisfactory
and meets the operator's obligations.
A review as per the predictions made in the PHC.
(1) PHC: Very little water will be pumped to the surface from the underground
mine.
This prediction was accurate. According to the AHR, no water has been pumped to the
surface since the fire in January, 1996.
(2) PHC: Gronndwater inflow into the mine will be very low.
A statement is made in the AHR that the mine is essentially dry. This prediction appears
to be accurate.
(3) PHC: Mine inflows are predicted to not exceed 5 to 10 gpm.
The Division requested inclusion of mine inflow data in the AHR in last year's review.
On page 9 of the report, a statement appears indicating that water is pumped from the D-
seam mine For storage at the rate of 8 gpm. This may represent the figure for inflow. If
so, the prediction in the PHC is accurate. Whatever the case, the Deserado Min is a very
dry mine.
(4)PHC: The local groundwater table may be lowered as mining proceeds.
This has apparently occurred. The water level in bedrock monitoring wells has dropped
as mining activity approached and the wells have gone dry as mining has passed.
