1 Honeywaod Coal Company
1997 Annual Hydrologic Repon
1 Page 2
J A minor unnamed drainage feature which bisects Section 33 in a north south direction is referred
1 to as Section 33 Creek. Sediment Pond B is located in this drainage. Monitoring point S-1 is
1 located in this drainage downstream of the sediment pond. This drainage, which bisects the
permit area, will receive most of the surface drainage from the permit area. Flow from Section
1 33 Creek dischazges into Naturita Creek. No flow was recorded at this monitoring point during
J the year.
Bramiers Draw is the major drainage feature to the west of the permit area. Because the permit
area slopes to the east, Bramiers Draw will only receive a minor amount of drainage from the
permit area. Flow from Bramiers Draw would discharge directly into the San Miguel River.
Monitoring points B-1 and B-2 are located in upper and lower Bramiers Draw respectively. No
flow was recorded at these points during the year.
1 Naturita Creek is the receiving stream for the drainage from the central and eastern portion of the
permit area. This creek typically flows year round. Three monitoring points are located along
I Naturita Creek. Two points are upstream N-1 and N-lA and one point downstream N-2.
Discharge point N-1 A replaced point N-1 effective in 1993. Naturita Creek had flow during the
second and fourth quarter monitoring events and quality was consistent with prior years
monitoring.
Springs
Six springs are located adjacent to the mining area. SP-l, located in Long Draw, has not had a
recorded flow since the second quarter of 1991. During 1997, SP-1 was dry the second quarter
and had a stagnant pool the fourth quarter.
SP-2, located in Section 33 Creek, has not had a recorded flow since the second quarter of 1991.
This spring was covered with silt during a significant precipitation event during 1996. Therefore,
flow from the spring will probably not surface in the future.
SP-3, located in Bramiers Draw, has not had any recorded flow in nine years of monitoring data
(1989 - 1997). The spring was noted as a seep during the first quarter of 1989 and damp the
second quarter of 1992. It was noted as dry during 1997.
~ SP-4, located in Bramiers Draw, has not had any recorded flow in nine years of monitoring data
(1989 - 1997). The spring was noted as a seep during the first and fourth quarters of 1989 and
1 dry during all subsequent monitoring events.
