Red Canyon Mine - 1997 AHR Page 3
be impaled by surface run-off from the mine site. Both points are monitored during May
and September for field parameters and total suspended solids, (TSS). In May the TSS
for SP-D and SP-DA was 165 and 220 respectively. In September the TSS for SP-D and
SP-DA was 180 and 165 respectively. The TSS measurements indicate that no significant
degradation of the quality of water occurred on this stretch of the Carbon Ditch.
During the year the return irrigation flow was allowed to accumulate in the pond to again
demonstrate this was an adequate source of water for the pond. On May 29~' the pond
contained about one foot of water. On June 29`" the pond contained about four feet of
water. On September 29`h the pond contained about three feet of water. On May 29`" a
sample of water was obtained from the pond and analyzed as follows:
Lab
Parameters Date
et Chemist Units 5/29/97
Chloride m /I 14.
Nitrate as N dissolved m /I <0.01
Nitrite as N, dissolved m /I <0.01
H lab units 7.81
Total Dissolved Solids m /I 460
otal Sus ended Solids m /I 40
Sulfate m /I 84.7
Metal Anal sis
luminum, total recoverable m /I 0.005
rsenic total recoverable m /I <.001
Boron, total recoverable m /I 0.105
Cadmium total recoverable m /I <.001
Chromium, total recoverable m /I <.001
Co er total recoverable m /I 0.072
Lead, total recoverable m /I <.001
Selenium total recoverable m /I 0.005
Sodium, total recoverable m /I 42.6
Zinc total recoverable m /I 0.080
This sample was taken demonstrate the quality of the impounded water is suitable for its
intended use.
