EASTSIDE MINE
Water Monitoring Program
Introduction
Baseline surface water quality was obtained in September 1983 with a full suite of chemical parameters
analyzed. Additional surface and underground hydrologic sampling was analyzed for a full suite of
chemical pazameters in Apri11984. Eastside's hydrologic monitoring program was initiated in July 1984.
Surface and underground field parameters were measured, and samples for chemical parameters were
collected as defined by Stipulation 1 ofthe Mining and Reclamation Permit, C-84-063, approved January
14, 1985. Due to a large reduction in flow, monitoring of the two underground wells and seep was
eliminated. After three years of quarterly sampling with no significant deviations or variations of the
chemical parameter, sampling of the surface water was reduced from quarterly to semi-annual basis.
The present surface sampling pointsare: 1-Harvey Gap Outlet-Above Mine; 2-Harvey Gap Outlet-Below
Mine; 3-Seep below Harvey Gap Reservoir. The ground water sampling point is the four inch pipe
installed through the mine portal seal to dischazge water from the mine if the water level should rise
sufficiently in the underground workings of the mine. To date no dischazges have occurred from the
mine.
The Geotech Well, the sampling point for the proposed location for the waste disposal, was reclaimed
in June of 1995.
The water monitoring program was initiated by Stephen Self, General Manager. Current monitoring is
performed by Stephen Self. Samples for the full suite of chemical parameters are shipped to ENVIRO-
CHEM Laboratory in Grand Junction, Colorado for analysis.
