Bowie Resources Limited
Bowie No. 1 Mine
1997 Annual Hydrology Report
Coal Member of Mesaverde:
Well DH 65 is in the East Roatcap (see Map No. 4-1) drainage and overlies the 1st East Mains/
Panel Y developed in 1994. This location was measured three times for water levels during
1996. During the 3rd quarter of 1996, the operator was unable to determine water levels due to
an obstruction m DH 65. Due to this obstruction, DH 65 has been removed from the sampling
program. DH 60 is also in the East Roatcap Creek drainage and is at the end of Panel H. This
well has a 1,040' long tube in it to measure depth to water. This location was measured three
times for water IeveLs during 1997 and the water level was appazently below the tube during all
monitoring events. No other field or water quality data is available for this type of monitoring.
Conclusion
Hydrologic monitoring was extended into the northern portion of the East Roatcap Creek
drainage during 1993 to fit newly acquired lease areas and revised mine plans. Mining during
1997 was confined to the western thick coal pod and the thin coal seams between the central
and west thick coal pods. Hydrologic monitoring conducted during 1997 did not show mine
related impacts to the local hydrology. All of the monitored locations exlu'bited characteristics
and patterns similar to previously recorded data. Water quality remains good overall and no .
• physical inrpacts have been noted at any of the monitored locations. None of the field or
-laboratory pazameter results indicate or suggest an adverse impact associated with the mining
operations of the Bowie No. 1 Mine.

~~ ~~
