X09-18-1995 10~43RM FROM SRURGE RIJD SRURGE TO 8328106 P.04
establish wildlife cover clumps and hiding area. The practical [teed for determining
woody plant densities in the undisturbed area is moot. However, if necessary we
would,propose to take a maximum of fifteen 50 square meter belt ttansects to be
aligned with the cover transects. 'This parameter would not be subject to sample
adequacy requirements.
Semple Adequacy
Sample adequacy calculations will be made for both vegetative cover and herbaceous
production sampling of the oakbtvsh community. The following formula will be used
for these calculations:
(t)2 (s)2
nmin = - (d Xyaz)2
where: n~ =minimum sample size
t =the Student's t distribution value at the 95~ confidence level
s =sample standard deviation (s)2= sample variance
d = pettertt acceptable deviation from the mean (1096)
Xbaz =sample mean
Sample adequacy will be calculated for vegetation cover and herbaceous production
sampling to a maximum of fifty (50) cover transacts or production plots. Lf sample
adequacy is indicated by less than the maximum number of transacts or quadrats,
sampling will be considered adequate for that parameter. Parameters will be tested at
the 9596 confidence level. Confidence levels achieved for each parameter will be
calculated and reported.
WETLAND COMMUNITY
The existing wetland community in the proposed expansion area is hypothesized by Wright
Water Engineers to be a remttant oxbow of the Notch Pork of the Gunnison River which has
been completely cut off from the river by construction for the "new" State Highway 133
alignmeat on the south side of the river. This area has bcen mapped and described in
accordaace with U.S. Army Carps of Engineers requirements for delineating jurisdictional
wetlands. As this community is small in size (0.3 acres), it qualifies as a minor vegetation
community, as defined by CDMG guidelines. We propose to provide a qualitative description
of this vegetation cotttmunity for baseline vegetation requirements.
We discussed the need far sampling the aakbrush reference azea at the mine to compare to the
undisturbed oakbrush in the proposed expansion area. As we both acknowledged, the
revegetatian on the refuse pile (both the eusting LRP and any proposed expansion) would not
attempt to establish an oakbrush wmmunity. The currently approved seed mix reflects the
3
