• 1994 Annual Hydrologic Report
Page 8
and calcium chloride were used on roads, both surface and
underground, to reduce the manpower requirements for keeping the
roads damp. Underground approximately 4800 gallons of water per
day, 3 days per week were used. Usage on the surface roads was
approximately 12,000 gallons of water per day, 4 days per week, 75%
of the year. Water for the surface roads was taken from an
approved point of diversion in the Highline canal.
A summary of the estimated consumptive use of water is as follows:
Total Gallons/ Gallons/
Source Gallons ram ton clean ton
Domestic
Surface Facilities 786,000 1.4 2.5
Preparation Plant 3,860,000 6.8 12.5
Mine
Mining 3,290,000 5.8 10.4
Preparation Plant 3,090,000 5.4 9.8
Underground Roads 750,000 1.3 2.4
Highline Canal
Surface Roads 1,872,000 3.3 5.9
TOTAL 13,648,000 24.0 43.5
IMPACTS
The total dissolved solids for the mine discharges calculated with
monthly TDS and monthly flow for the year come out to be 79.1 tons
for 001, 1036.1 tons for 002 and 428.4 tons for 004. These
discharges represent .1170 of the 1.314 million tons calculated to
be carried by the River. Again for 1995 the discharge of TDS is
expected to decrease slightly from the Roadside South Portal and
increase slightly from the Roadside North Portal. Long term
discharge from the Roadside North will cease upon completion of
mining. At the Roadside South, water is expected to continue to
discharge from 002 beyond closure and flow is expected to increase
by the amount previously discharged from outfall 001 and the amount
previously used for mining and processing.
There was no detectable effect of mining on flows in Cottonwood and
Rapid Creeks. Mining projections in the Roadside South have
changed to mining east toward Rapid Creek with mining past SWGS-02
being delayed indefinitely. An increase in inflows is expected as
. mining progress east, but is not expected to significantly
influence the flow in the Creeks. Since the end of this hydrologic
year, mining has resumed at the Roadside North Portals. Permit
revisions are being reviewed to monitor potential surface and
