Gravel - Albert Frei and Sons, Inc. mined the gravel under a lease with the mineral right owners this year. A total of 11.94 acres has been stripped in Stage A to prepare it for mining (brown). The material stripped was placed along the perimeter of Stage A. Mining continued Stage A on the area west of the road removing the south end of the pre-law overburden storage area and the upper 4 feet of gravel from the south side of Stage A (magenta). This material was blended with material removed from the stripped area (tan) to create the product Albert Frei and Sons, Inc. needed. The current gravel operation has disturbed 21.80 acres ± in the mine. (2) No reclamation was required this year. The areas colored green are being backfilled with waste materials. Filling did continue on the old clay mining area in the (+++) hatched areas. The backfilling on the south slope of the old clay pit will establish the slope into the excavation area and the bench along that part of the excavation was expanded to cover 2.29 ac. ± (green). We continued to install the sight berm along the west side of the facility as required in the county plan this year (lite green). No additional reclamation is required until mining for both materials is completed in any given stage. (3) Clay - Mining will continue in Stage I or Stage II, no new area will be disturbed this year because we are mining in the area stripped by the sand and gravel operator. We will mine deeper into the clay veins exposed in the past and advance the face to the north as approved in the reclamation plan. Processing will continue in the Clay Plant Site Area in Stage 0 (purple). We are using a small part of the east side of Stage II to store clay produced at a mine near Golden. It is used with the clay from this mine at our brick plant in Lakewood. Gravel - Albert Frei and Sons, Inc. will continue to remove the pre-law overburden piles as needed and mine in the stripped part of Stage A in the southeast part of the mine. To date they have screened the material and hauled it to another site for processing. This may change this year if a crushing plan is installed on Stage A. ({) No reclamation is called for during the next year. However, Albert Frei and Sons, Inc. will continue to backfill the slope along the south side of the old clay pit.
