• Introduction
1'he informatics a9eembled in ibis 1995 Annual 9ydrology lieport (ABIU includes data
emllected from approved monitoring sites astabllabed at eeneca Coal Compatry's (SCC) Seneca
II Mine (state Permit No. C-BO-005). Locations of monitoring sites discussed in this
report can be laun6 by referring to Exhibit 7-2, 9ydrology Honitoring Site Location Maps
which may be found in the Seneca II Permit Application Package.
All references to 1995, or to "this year^, will bn for water ]fear 1995 (Ottobez 1, 1994
through September 30, 1995) unless otherwise noted. All tables referred to in the
follouinq text can be found Sn Appendix A. In addition, a table of contents for Appendix
A is given at the beginning of that appendix.
eetveen October, 1994 and September, 1995, mining progressed ae indicated by the shaded
areas on FSqure 1 (Appendix A). From Figure 1 it is evident that strip mining is being
conducted simultaneously in tvo areas. In the southern permit area, the Madge coal seam
is being mined, and Sn the northern permit area the wolf Creels seam Sa being mined.
•
Field conduetivi ty and pH meters are calibrated prior to each day's vas. The conductivity
meter is calibrated using a potassium chloride solution with an electrical conductivity in
the 1000 to 3000 umhos/~ range. The pe meter Ss calibrated using NB9 traceable buffers
with pN values of 7 and 10.
Prior to October 1, 1989, all field conductivity valves collected at Seneca II monitoring
sites were not corrected for teaperature (1.e., 25° C). Field conductivity data starting
on October 1, 1989 were teaR+erature wrrected to 25° C. The formula for correcting non-
corrected conductivity data may De frond in the 1990 through 1992 A83(a.
9CC has instituted a new monitoring site numbering system for its nee Paradox" eater
quality data base. Tbia nee system is detailed in Table A. For wnvenienee sake, thin
table has been placed at the end of the Table of Contents (see previous page). In
addition, Table 3, Summary of Ground water Monitoring Neils; Table 13, S••^""°*'y of Surface
water Monitoring Sites; and the Table of Contents of Appendices C thrrntgh G have all been
. revised to correlate the old site (and map) name to tha ner (Paradox) computer name. The
' ~ nee computer name will be used throughout the follovinq text.
1
