In the area surrounding Seneca II, grounQ water is not being pvaiped for irrigation or <br />livestock vaterinq purposes. The above discussion is provided only co serve as a • <br />comparative basis to ludge ground eater quality. Domestic yells that provide drinking <br />eater for local residents are not from aquifers ia~acted by mining. Mining at Seneca II <br />is not believed to be causing the degradation of any monitored aquifer. <br />Surface Water <br />Table 9 lists pertinent information on all NPDSS, stream, and spring monitoring sites at <br />the 9eneea II Mine. A complete description of the surface vatel monitoring program may be <br />found on Pages 7-161 to 7-169 of the 9eneea II permit Application Package. NFDES <br />Discharge Points 002, 003, 004, and 008 are monitored weekly. Stream Monitoring Sites 1, <br />2, 5, and 6 are monitored monthly from March through October. All of the NFDES and Stream <br />Monitoring Sites 1, 2, 5, and 6 are sampled three times a year for water quality. The <br />first sample of the year is collected prior to peak rnnoff (March): the second sample is <br />collected after peak runoff (Hay or June): and the third sample is collected during base <br />floe conditions (September). Samples collected at all these sites were analyzed using the <br />surface water long list, Table 10 (Appendix A). The two stream monitors on Fish Creek <br />(Sites 11 and 13) and the two on Fish Creek tributaries (91tes 10 and 12) <br />are monitored • <br />, <br />monthly from May through September. When no floe is observed at the Cow Caaq~ or Hond <br />Creek sites (Shea 11 and 13), the two Flsh Creek sites (Sites 10 and 12) are not <br />monitored. This year, monitoring occurred at these four sites in May, June, and July. <br />At the Seneca II Hine, there are four springs (native) that are sampled annually (in the <br />spring). Ten spoil springs are monitored in the spring season each year after the ground <br />had dried from snovmelt. In addition, Spoils b~zing RS was monitored for the long list <br />concurrently with Site 6, and vas monitored biweekly and concurrently with NPDE9 004 for <br />flow anQ Eield parameters from Harch to June. <br />Surface eater quality data are presented in Appendix S. Data for each site begins with a <br />floe hydrograph of all historic data (plus an annual hydrograph for NPDES sites), followed <br />by a listing of individual eater quality and quantity data for the current eater year, a <br />TD9 regression plot using the LOWESS method (see Oround Water puality section), and then a <br />listing of historic percent millequivalent values for ma]or ions and TDS values. Crest <br />stage gage rating curves are presented in Appendix F. NFDES discharge monitoring reports <br />(DMRS) are presented in Appendix G.
