1
1 s~ r~ oa;~,
' • The vegetation on the test plots was sampled during the summer of 1992. Sampling will
be repeated in the summer of 1993 and 1995. Cover and woody density sampling will
1 be performed in 1992 and 1993. Covei, woody density, and production sampling will be
conducted in 1995. A woody plant rooting depth study will also be conducted in 1995.
No studies are planned for 1994.
1 • Cover sampling within plots will entail 5-10 systematically or randomly located 100 foot
transects with 5 systematically or randomly spaced 10 point frame placements per
1 transect. Woody density data will be estimated from 2 meter wide belt transects run
along each cover transect. For production sampling, a minimum of 10 randomly located
one m= quardrats per plot will be used. Sample adequacy will be set such that estimates
1 are within 10% of the true mean at the 90% level of statistical confidence.
• Rooting depth of the major species of woody plants within the various plots will be
1 evaluated. A number of soil pits will be dug within each plot in the final year of the
study and results of the evaluation will be included in the final report.
1 • The plant sample will be analyzed for selenium and boron content if the pre-reclamation
investigation shows a high concentration of these elements in the refuse, topsoil or
subsoil.
1 • The data gathered will be statistically evaluated and interpreted against the revegetation
1 success criteria established during the pre-reclamation investigation. The sagebrush-
wheatgrass reference area will be sampled during 1995 to provide input for establishment
of revegetation success criteria.
1 • Conclusions will be drawn as to the revegetation success with different test plots and for
various cover depths.
1 Communication with Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
1 A close communication will be maintained with DMG through this study. The Division's
consent has been obtained regarding this plan of study. Information gathered from the pre-
1 reclamation investigation has been submitted for the Division's review. Decisions regarding
the topsoil/subsoil thickness have been made in concert with DMG. Results of periodical
post-reclamation study will be submitted and comments will be sought. If it is determined
1 that atopsoil/subsoil cover of less than four feet can achieve successful revegetation, an
application for a variance from the four foot cover requirement will be submitted to DMG.
1 ~®
1 ~
1
