aquifer dilution from this year's high snowpack runoff.
Samples from YeLI 150V, also located in the north mining area, display a Ne-SO4 type water
with an average TDS value of 3,615 mg/t for 1993. This is higher than the baseline
average (3,394 mg/l) but falls within the baseline range (1,810 to 4,422 mg/l).
Well 160V is located et the north end of the south mining area in which mining began in
1990. As yet, no samples have been collected from this well due to low casing volumes
(two gallons ar less).
Samples from Yell 170V, located downgredient of the central portion of the south mining
area, display a NaNgCa-504 type water with an average TDS value of 5,807 mg/l during 1993.
This value is both lower then the baseline average (8,272 mg/l) and the baseline range
(7,928 to 8,586 mg/l).
Samples from Well 180V, located at the south end of the south mining area, displays
Na-HC03 type water. The average TDS value of 588 mg/l for 1993 is both lower than the
baseline average (775 mg/l) and the baseline range (740 to 79B mg/l).
Wedge Loal. Well 14Y is Located in the north mining area. Sufficient water for sampling
was first observed in this welt in June, 1993. That sample displayed a NgCe-NC03SO4 type
water with a TDS value of 1,390 mg/l.
Samples from Well 15Y, located in the north mining area, displays a Na-SO type water with
4
an average TDS value of 4,655 mg/l for 1993. This value is considerably higher than both
the baseline average (1,330 mg/l) and the baseline range (1,208 to 1,600 mg/l). Pater
samples used for the baseline data are believed to be contaminated with low TDS drilling
fluid, while samples collected since June, 1990 reflect the true water chemistry of the
coal seam (See the 1992 ANR for more detail). Since TDS increases occurred before mining
in this area, the high TDS value must be a result of natural conditions.

•
YeIL 16Y is located at the north end of the south mining area. Little or no water is
normally present in this well; however, on three sampling periods (July, 1991, October,
1991, and October, 1992) there has been enough water to sample. The October, 1992 sample
displayed a Na-504 type water with a TDS value of 3,240 mg/l.
6
