25, 1993 so that repairs could be made. Repair of the dewatering line was complete on
August 5, 1993.
Surface Water Site SW-52W-SGS. This site is located on Dry Creek and is the furthest
downstream surface Water site for Seneca II-Y. Monitoring at this site began in March,
1983. Review of its hydrogra ph shows the highest peak flow since 1986. Samples at this
site display a MgCa-504HC03 type eater With an average TDS value of 917 mg/l in 1993.
This value is lower than the baseline average of 1,065 mg/l and falls within the baseline
range of 345 to 1,562 mg/l.
Surface Water Site SW-52W-FGS. This site is situated on Sage Creek upstream of the
impacts from the Seneca II-W Mine (and also the proposed Yoast Mine). Monitoring at this
site commenced in September, 1990. Samples at this site display a CaMg-HC03 type water
with an average TDS value of 398 mg/l in 1993. Review of the hydrograph indicates the
highest peak flow on record occurred this year.
NPDES 009. This site is situated on a tributary to Sage Creek and was constructed in
October 1991. As of yet, no flow has occurred from this pond. Data from the discontinued
Surface Water Site SW-S2W-SG3 (period of record: July, 1979 to May, 1986) will be used in
future AHR~s as the baseline data for this NPDES site.
Surface Water Site SW-52W-FG4. This site is situated on Sage Lreek downstream of the
impacts from the Seneca II-W Mine (and also the proposed Yoast Nine). Monitoring of this
site commenced in September, 1990. Samples at this site display a CaMg-HC03SO4 type water
with an average TDS value of 597 mg/l in 1993. This value is 50 percent higher than that
observed upstream a[ Si[e FGS, but since no water from the Seneca II-W Mine has ye[ to
discharge into Sage Creek, this increase in TDS is due to natural conditions. Review of
the hydrog ra ph indicates the highest peak flow on record occurred [his year.
Springs. Spring 5-45, or the Olson Spring, is not a flowing spring, but a three-foot
diameter well placed in the alluvium of Dry Creek. Since a well was drilled on the Olson
ranch in September, 1980, this "spring" has not been put to use, although it is
water-righted for stock use. Samples at this spring display a MgCa-SO4HC03 type water
with a 7D5 average of 1,487 mg/l in 1993. This value is lower than the 1,510 mg/l
. baseline average, but falls ui thin the baseline range of 1,294 to 1,688 mg/l.
11
