L
' leases C-8424 and C-8425 in order to satisfy DMG's requirement that such water samples be
taken prior to entering these leases and prior to mining through the hole or requesting post-
' reGamation bond release, Such sampling will be limited to the middle (coal facie) zone.
' The Deserado Mine First Annual Hydrology Report (December 1985) contains baseline water
quality data for the bedrock zones.
' 2.2.2.5 Mlne Water Balance Table 2-3 shows the water balance for the Deserado Mine.
Pumping from the sealed district (LWi-LWS) resumed in the 1994-1995 water year. Approxi-
' mately 1.1 million gallons were pumped from District 1 and 0.5 million gallons were pumped from
District 2 before the mine fire of January 31, 1996. No water has been pumped from underground
workings since January 10, 1996. Electric power to the pumps has been cut off due to the
' underground fire; the pumps have been removed. This water enters the mine from the
surrounding strata and is included in seeps. A description of how these numbers are arrived at
follows.
TABLE 2-3
MINE WATER BALANCE
WATER IN GALLONS/YEAA GALLONS/MIN
Production Equipment 9,290,400 17.68
Ventilation Humidity 11,216,818 21.34
Seeps 18,019,635 34.28
' Incidental (pipe leaks, road) watering, wash down 5,063.7 9.63
.......::....:.... .
a~~a .. .::.....:...._...
~.~ ...
_~.
