M-77-342)
Dear Mr. Humphries:
Included is the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) Annual 112d-3
Report for Climax Molybdenum Company's Henderson Mine and Mill (Permit No. M-
77-342), and our check for the $1,000.00 annual fee. Below is a summary of interim
reclamation activities conducted during 2001.
Mine Site
There were no new disturbances at the Mine in 2001, nor do we expect any in 2002. We
conducted no reclamation activities at the Mine in 2001. Additional detail on reclamation
completed at the millsite follows.
Mill Site
The tailings basin water pool increased to an elevation of 8,809 feet, which increased our
disturbed acreage in 2001 to 1,010 acres, from 995 acres in 2000. Based on past fly-over
survey information, Henderson has good information to support the claim that we are
over-estimating our total disturbance by approximately 60 acres. Henderson anticipates
the Division of Minerals and Geology revisiting our bond calculation numbers in the near
future at which time we hope to clarify this issue. The Henderson Mill continues to log
the remaining forested areas around the tailings impoundment that will be inundated by
life of mine. The completion of this work has taken longer than originally estimated,
however, we anticipate completion of this project by the 4°i quarter of this year. The
Henderson Mill beetle control-logging project, initiated during the 4'~ quarter of 2000,
that is still ongoing. No completion date can be estimated for this project, as the project's
final scope is a moving target. The Henderson Mill is pursuing a Forest Agriculture Plan
for its nearly 8,000 forested acres in order to better manage our forested lands. The 1-
Dam wellfield project to capture groundwater below 1-Dam is nearly complete. Top soil
