I `
5
i
n
1
s
Introduction
Umetco Minerals Corp. contracted U. S. Environmental Services Inc. to supervise
the drilling of a test boring at their Deremo 2 mine site in San Miguel County,
Colorado. The boring was to be drilled to a total depth of 75 feet in order to
investigate any hydrocarbon contamination in the ground water. If an aquifer
was encountered, a monitoring well was to be installed and the aquifer
monitored for hydrocarbons. However, if no ground water was encountered
within the first 75 feet of the surface the boring was to be plugged and
abandoned (See letter 10/19/99 in Appendix A). Gordon Smith Drilling drilled
the boring.
The location of the test boring (Test Boring MW-1) is shown on Figure 1.
Photograph 1 shows the location of the test boring with respect to the surface
area where contaminated soils were removed.
