Greyslone Development Consultants, Inc. <br /> A hydrologic monitoring program was implemented at the Somerset Mine located near Somerset, <br /> Colorado in January 1986. This report includes data collected for the First Quarter on April 25, 1989. <br /> Stations which were monitored include Wells B-6 and H-10 and the Hubbard Creek Surface Station H-1. <br /> All data collected during this sampling is presented on the attached data base tables containing all data since <br /> the program began. <br /> All water chemistry analyses results conducted by Chemtech of Salt Lake City, Utah for the quarter <br /> are attached. At Well H-10,water level increased by 0.75 feet from that measured in October 1988. Water <br /> quality remained consistent with previous samplings. The water can be classified as a strong sodium- <br /> bicarbonate type with elevated concentrations of dissolved solids, alkalinity, and conductivity. The <br /> cation/anion balance also indicated a highly mineralized water. Metal concentrations of boron, fluoride, <br /> total iron and dissolved silica were also evaluated. The water was slightly turbid. <br /> The water level rose at Well B-6 14 feet from the level measured in October 1988. Water quality <br /> has changed from that of previous samplings to resemble that sampled at Well H-10. The water is a <br /> sodium-bicarbonate type, with a higher ionization than that measured at Well H-10. This is also reflected <br /> by a higher TDS and conductivity. This surge in the water level at B-6 and a rise in water level at H-10 <br /> along with the change in water chemistry indicates further connection between these two mined areas. <br /> Future analyses may confirm this assumption. <br /> Water flowing in Hubbard Creek (Station 1-1-1) was high (121 cis) indicating normal runoff <br /> conditions. The water is a calcium-bicarbonate type with average concentrations of nutrients. Metal <br /> concentrations were found to be within normal ranges of these previously sampled. <br /> A sediment pond inspection was conducted on March 1, 1989. All ponds were found to be in good <br /> operating condition. No discharges were made from any of the sedimentation ponds during the quarter. <br /> Copies of the NPDES Discharge Monitoring Reports submitted to the Department of Health have been <br /> forwarded to the Division. <br /> I <br /> I <br />
